Some of Our Team Member's Opinion and Insights About the Theory
“The theory give a certain level of
explanations on the complexity of human which in turn give rise to questions
like: how we are going to manage these complexities? The theory is not
that useful in a culture where the person usually seeks medical advice only
during an acute or emergent phase.” – MARVIN REPATO-
"The Human Becoming Theory deals about the real and true presence of the nurse, and that is to act as a witness, help them to look into their reality, to be with them in their most difficult times and to guide them and just to be with them. Sometimes if not most of the times, to provide them a non-controlling environment and a set-up where their opinions, thoughts and feelings are brought to the open should be given to them freely, thus giving them the chance too to reflect on their current situations and transcends to a much better situation and a much better them. Truly, it is not only a gift but it also a skill to be in the real meaning and feelings of other people and such as great nurses do, where they approach nursing care holistically, just merely being aware and be reminded of this theory creates a great significance to us all. Thus, a real nurse cares for a patient not
just for their illness but for a man as a whole, and that includes their spiritual, sociological &
psychological well being, then that is the only time that we can say we provided a genuine care and support."- CELESTE MAE ROSCO-
“In Nursing Education, understanding Parse’s
human becoming theory teaches essential insights to nursing students. It
teaches them the importance of seeing the patient’s perspective during nursing care.
Nursing is not a one-sided discipline. It is a cooperative act between the
nurse and the patient in which both are directed towards improving the latter’s
quality of life. In a clinical setting, Parse’s human becoming theory provides
alternative methods of providing patient care. It guides the nurse by directing
them towards not only on the physiological direction of “fixing” the patient
but more importantly on striving on “being with” the patient. This simple
nursing act strengthens the nurse-patient relationship if utilized properly. It
allows the nurse to fully unfold the patient’s perspective in relation to his
current condition and his life. By understanding the perspective of the
patient, the nurse is more likely to provide a more effective nursing care by
effectively guiding the patient towards positive health behavior changing
patterns. This results to the attainment of human becoming. Lastly, in Nursing
Research, utilizing Parse’s human becoming theory helps the nurse in gaining a
deeper understanding on individualized human experiences. These unique
experiences widen the nurse’s perspective on human life thus increasing a
nurse’s appreciation while at the same time equipping the nurse with a deeper
understanding on life itself which will prove useful once in the clinical
setting.”- MARIA VICTORIA RAMOS-
"We nurses, are always aiming for the
best quality care we could provide to all our clients, and not only the
listening ear but the listening heart plays a great role, not only to transcend
to be more humane but TO BE HUMANE. So to say and to speak, this theory
doesn’t just involve nurses on a clinical setting but the whole society. The
human dignity and respect are greatly valued in this theory. The power of
empathy and not just merely sympathizing are given a great importance.
The dignity and ethical precept of humanity are illuminated, which I
think in a fast paced world such as ours and the value of time and work output
that are expected, these values where taken for granted and were set aside,
when it is the BASIC of being HUMAN. Taking time to listen, and just merely
taking time, slowing down are the values learned here." -REMEDIOS A.
RACADIO-
“Parse's theory furthers the role of the nurse.
Being more compassionate and emphatic to clients gives deeper meaning in the
provision of nursing care. It is also constructive in the long term
goal attainment of an individual’s bio-sociological functioning. Moreover, this theory
denotes principles for lifelong learning. It focuses on human possibility and
the living of hopes and dreams.”- HARRY WILLIAM REY-
"Nursing theories is not only based on
the physiologic part but rather it is also applied in all aspects surrounding
the person. Such example is, The Human Becoming Theory which explains the
person’s own perspective in health and life. As nurses, we should see the
totality of the person on how he sees life with different endeavors, striving
to become a better one. Empowerment for a person or client is also a point in
human becoming in which, he will be able to formulate own decisions considering
aspects involved as well as the capability to do it in the right way. The goal
is to help them learn and do things on their own through our assistance in
which we must consider their feelings, ideas and experiences on how they deal
with their own environment. A nurse should be consistent to her presence and
ideas to help them. It is a long term process indeed, but the possibility of
making people to be on their own (good ways with healthy living) is a great
triumph in giving care as nurses." -WELLY ROCERO-
“This theory is concerned with understanding
the phenomena as experienced by the person; hence it considers
quality of life from each person’s own perspective as the goal of nursing. I
believe that human being participate in formulating what is real for him
through life experiences guided by his chosen values building
his/her own way. Nursing diagnoses has no place in this
theory because the theorist does not advocate labelling, instead she
commonly uses the prefix “co” to denote the participative nature of
persons, meaning human being cannot be separated from his relationship with the
world. How persons makes sense of experience and transforms
experience into their consciousness, both to himself and as shared
with others, meaning how they perceived it, describe it, feel about
it, and talk about it with other people, therefore, a person’s past,
present and future is significant and irreplaceable.” -NORMITA M. REYES-
